Brand New: 2017 Winter Camp

With the start of the New Year and camp right around the corner, January is without a doubt an exciting month on the Jeju Bible Institute campus. The students greatly anticipate the opportunity to utilize the skills they have developed throughout their year at WOLBI Jeju.

Early mornings. Late nights. Diverse food. High energy. Intense games. Meaningful worship. Pouring all their energy into this is completely worth it when there is the opportunity to see teenagers come to know Christ and be encouraged to live for Him.

Each year, Word of life missionaries, local pastors, and a significant amount of volunteers partner together to successfully plan and execute winter camp. Lead by camp director Joe Min, the staff consists primarily of current Bible Institute students, alumni and young adult volunteers from various churches around South Korea.

WOLBI Jeju student, Ally Cheon (top middle) had the opportunity to serve as a counselor to the girl campers for winter camp. Ally loved having the opportunity to help her campers know and grow closer to God. Whether it was playing active and high-energy games like “Watchover”, participating in camp dramas, or talking to the girls one-one one, Ally had a burden for these girls to know God more. At the beginning of English camp one of her campers wanted to go home but throughout the week God began to change her mind. “I was reminded that God is alive and that nothing is impossible”, Ally commented.

This winter camp season included a 9-day English camp and two 3-day Momentum camps. English camp offers teenagers a unique experience where campers can learn English and also enjoy the fun activities of camp. For nine days teenagers come to the WOLBI Jeju property to learn English. Each day the campers attend English classes taught by native English speakers attending the Word of Life Bible Institute. Each class prepares a drama and presents it at the talent show at the end of the week. The afternoon is filled with high-energy activities and interactive English games. The night ends with a “Bible Club” where campers enjoy a time of icebreaker games, drama, worship and message from God’s Word. Similar to English camp, Momentum camp is a shorter camp experience consisting of three days. Each day is comprised of an English class, English games, a major activity in the afternoon and a “Bible Club” at night. For both camps, the theme of Bible Club was “Brand New” and campers were challenged to think about their identity, where it comes from and how they will live their life knowing their identity in Christ.

After completing the winter camp season, the WOLBI students and staff look forward to more opportunities this summer for God to work in the lives of young people all across South Korea through English and Momentum camp. We hope to see you at camp this summer!
